A Ring For The Nose
It was a trend when I was in college, but it didn’t exactly make it a good idea. I don’t begrudge anyone his or her fashion sense, but I often thought an earring sticking out a nose was silly. Don’t get me wrong, I like the earring in the eyebrow look, but when it comes to noses, I guess I’m just squeamish. Whenever I saw someone with a nose ring, all I could think about was the nasty stuff that comes out of noses, and how that would get caught around that peice of jewelry. Yuck!
Of course, most people do it for the shock value, and others just like the way it looks. The problem with getting a nose ring is that it is something you are going to have to live with. Even if you take out your nose ring to get a job, the hole will still be there. In most cases, these holes are very visible. Those who got a nose ring on a whim and regret it will be very self-conscious about the hole in their nose, and it may take years before that hole closes; depending on how long that person had their ring in place.
Today, you can get non-piercing body jewelry. This is a great idea for anyone considering getting a piercing in a non-traditional area. You can try the look out before you commit, and you can also get a sense of what it is like to have something hanging from your nose. You may find you love it, and you will go ahead and get the pierced nose ring. You may also decide you like the look, but don’t want to commit to the hole, so you continue to use the non piercing kind of ring, or you may feel ridiculous and you can thank your lucky stars you didn’t get pierced.
There’s nothing wrong with expressing yourself, and if you want to get a nose ring, then you should. It is your body after all. However, if you are in college and plan to work in the business, legal, or medical fields, you should really consider your options carefully before you proceed. A hole in your nose, or that wild tattoo, might be a liability to your career. Get the non-piercing type of nose ring if you know you don’t want to commit forever, and let me tell you, most people I have known have most definitely reconsidered.
